How The Warrior Factory Syracuse came to be:
The Warrior Factory Syracuse is truly a family project. A chance visit to the Rochester facility for an open gym while visiting relatives in late 2017 sparked an interest in the Bolster girls and soon enough the whole family was making weekly treks to Rochester and competing in the National Ninja League. The culture of The Warrior Factory and ninja community as a whole made a huge impression on the family. After having been involved in many different sports and activities, it was clear that ninja was special in the way that support, tips and positivity was offered regardless of affiliation – it was not a unique experience to see one ninja coming off the course after failing an obstacle and giving tips to the next competitor on what went wrong and how they might beat it. The Bolsters experienced firsthand how ninja brought people together and encouraged everyday kids and adults alike to step out of their comfort zone. Nowhere was this exemplified more than at The Warrior Factory. As soon as it was announced that The Warrior Factory was franchising, the Bolsters started the process to bring the secret sauce of fun and fitness that The Warrior Factory offers to their hometown of Syracuse. Months into the process they couldn’t be more excited about the imminent opening of their facility and sharing the magic they found with the rest of their community.
Originally from a small town in Ohio, Julien has made Syracuse his home in order to join The Warrior Factory family and to start training the next crop of elite ninja athletes. Julien was pursuing ninja before it was even a “thing” here in the US. As an avid fan of the Japanese television series Sasuke he dedicated himself to pursuing the American version, American Ninja Warrior, as soon as he realized it existed. A long way from his self-described stick body, Julien made his dreams come true and has competed in seasons 8 (Philly), 9 (Cleveland) and 10 (Philly) of American Ninja Warrior. Julien is used to being the underdog and persevering; he has walked onto ANW 7 times since 2013. Getting his teaching start by coaching tennis (his sport before he discovered ninja) Julien eventually became a personal trainer and has been teaching ninja for the last 5 years. Leading a highly competitive team to the highest level of ninja competition in the nation, Julien has proved his knowledge, techniques and training tactics are of the highest caliber. The Warrior Factory Syracuse is excited and proud to have him lead our staff.
Jeremy Warters never thought of himself as an athletic kid. Early in life he was more comfortable in front of a gaming console than outside or being active. That all changed when he and a friend embarked on a journey to learn how to do some of the parkour tricks they had seen others doing. Through this journey Jeremy realized he was incredibly athletic, if not in the way traditional sports highlight, his speed, power and ability to jump were a perfect fit for parkour. Completely self-taught and learning by breaking down videos from other parkour enthusiasts Jeremy was not only learning the mechanics and movements for himself but also how to teach those movements and mechanics from the most beginner level to the most advanced; a path that has made him an incredible instructor. After a few years of focusing on parkour, Jeremy discovered ninja – an actual sport he could participate in to measure those skills he had been building up against other athletes. Finally 19, Jeremy can apply to ANW this year and will hopefully get the chance to compete against the best of the best. We couldn’t be happier to have Jeremy on our team!
Anella Bolster has packed a whole lotta ninja into a very tight timeline. A recreational gymnast until age 13, Nelly discovered ninja after a chance visit to The Warrior Factory in Rochester when she was 12. After competing in an NNL competition for fun and doing well she decided this was the sport for her! In the summer of 2018 she was selected as a competitor on ANW Jr Season 1, her run on the show being only her 3rd time on a ninja course! Now 15, Anella has much more ninja experience and has placed 13th and 8th among hundreds of competitors at the NNL World Finals the past 2 years. Aside from ninja Anella participates in XC and track as enjoys school. While she might not always have as much time as she might like to practice ninja due to the constraints of an active teenage schedule, the fact that her family opened a gym means she will probably be allowed some off hours training. A younger team member, with a fair amount of experience and a penchant for helping younger athletes, Nelly is a huge asset to The Warrior Factory team.
As the owner of The Warrior Factory Syracuse Kathryn Bolster has put together an amazing team of coaches and staff that create a safe, fun and extremely effective teaching environment to develop the next crop of top notch ninjas. Passionate about the sport and the kids involved she has the ability to draw on her vast life experiences, as well as those of being a parent, to direct the programming, methodologies and the general vibe customers feel when they walk through the door. With a clear vision for what she wants to see the facility grow into we are excited for the future with Kathryn at the helm. Safe Sport Certification
