BYRON — Autumn Mathisen visited The Warrior Factory in Rochester Memorial Day weekend in 2017.
Autumn, then 11, was hooked.
On Oct. 13, Autumn, an eighth-grader at Byron-Bergen Central School, will be among the contestants on the new American Ninja Warrior Junior show that premiers on NBC’s Universal Kids station.
The show airs at 7 p.m.
Autumn, a daughter of John and Amy Mills Mathisen of Byron, traveled to Los Angeles in July to compete and film the show. The tournament has three ages groups, with Autumn competing in the 11-12 age bracket.
Autumn has participated in gymnastics since she was 2 years old and currently practices at MCA Gymnastics in Byron. She also plays JV soccer and varsity track at Byron-Bergen.
Her first Ninja competition was in October 2017, resulting in her qualifying for National Ninja Finals in February. She placed fifth overall in the 11-12 age group and already qualified for nationals this year in the 13-15 group.
The family is not saying how Autumn did on the televised Warrior Junior show. Watch it Oct. 13 to find out.
